The pellet that appears at the right end of the exergual line is often mistaken by cataloguers as part of the mint mark. However, it is not; it is simply a nuance of the engraving, probably used by the engraver as a guide point. This observation is corroborated by RIC X, pl. 1, nos. 7-9, examples of this issue in the names of Arcadius, Honorius, and Theodosius II. The example numbered 8fn is like ours, a solidus of Honorius with the pellet at the right end of the exergual line, while the examples numbered 7, 8, and 9 all lack the pellet.
